Happy Thursday! Payahuunadu has been rocked by blasting winds and even a bit of snow in high elevations. Fortunately, fair weather is forecast for this weekend before more precipitation returns Monday. Some precipitation in the form of snow and rain is expected to continue through this evening into tomorrow but we expected very little to accumulate. High temps this weekend should melt away any remaining snow. It's expected to be a bit breezy so make sure your spotters are watching those pads and be aware of rock fall! The Flash Foxy Climbing Festival is coming to town, whoot! We expect the crags and boulders to be bustling this weekend so let's be kind to one another. Here’s what you can expect: Buttermilk Country: Some snow accumulation is possible but is [...]

With pleasant temps, soft overcast skies, and the first spring blooms peeking out, it’s shaping up to be a dreamy next few days. Get out there and enjoy it! Well folks, if you left anything outside last night, it might be halfway to Nevada by now! Hope you tied down your tents and held onto your climbing partners. But after last week's snow and cold, the sun is back in full force, and it’s starting to feel like spring is peeking through. Honestly, it’s starting to feel like summer is here, but don’t worry winter will almost certainly come back to smack us in the face and shock all our fruit trees. Enjoy the sunny days for now, because it’s getting HOT. The weather this weekend and into next week is nothing but sunny skies and climbing temps. This weekend may stay breezy with some slight clouds and highs in the upper 50’s, Sunday the high is 69, and [...]

Eastern Sierra History Journal / Sierra Forever Partnership

Would you like to get an idea of the type of materials that are presented at Sierra Forever's Eastern Sierra History Conference held each year in the fall? Well, you can get a taste of it by reading the latest volume of the Eastern Sierra History Journal. The ESHJ is a collaboration between Sierra Forever (formerly Eastern Sierra Interpretive Association) and the Claremont Colleges Library. An annual publication, it features selected papers delivered at the Eastern Sierra History Conference; from time to time, the editors might also commission essays to expand that year’s coverage. The journal’s geographical parameters are from the Sierra’s eastern slope to the eastern California deserts; its north-south spine is US 395. Among possible subjects the journal explores are the region’s complex Indigenous histories and the [...]

Bishop Climbing Rangers’ Conditions Report for 2/6 through 2/9

2025-02-07T06:37:41-08:00February 7th, 2025|Blog|

Hey fam, the weather on the Eastside is flip-flopping faster than a slippery politician! 🌦️ Buckle up to ride things out for the next two days—rain is in the forecast tonight and tomorrow, with wind advisories in effect until Friday evening. Higher elevations can expect that rain to turn to snow, so some accumulation is likely. But don’t worry—sunny skies return this weekend! ☀️ Highs will be in the 50s, making for prime conditions to get back outside and enjoy the Eastside. Stay safe, stay stoked, and keep an eye on those changing conditions! Area Conditions:  Buttermilks: Some snow is accumulating, and road conditions are expected to get worse with the erosion and precipitation. Take it slow and don’t get stuck! Tablelands: The weekend will most likely be busy. There [...]
