Did you know that the Eastern Sierra is one of the most geologically active regions in the US? Join Sierra Forever and Mono Lake Volunteers for a FREE Geology Walk to hike into a young volcano and learn more about the wild forces that shaped the area. When: Saturdays and Sundays at 10:00am Where: Meet at the Panum Crater Trailhead kiosk. To get to Panum Crater, take Highway 395 and turn on Highway 120 East (like you’re going to South Tufa). Watercolor with a Ranger this September in the Mono Basin! Paint outdoors while learning about the unique ecosystems of the Mono Basin and Eastern Sierra. Friendly Forest Service rangers will provide all watercolor supplies and interpretive information about the natural wonders around you. All ages are welcome and no previous art experience required. First two dates drop in at South Tufa picnic tables between 11am - 2pm. The second two dates' locations will be announced later as the fall colors start to show up. |

"The Secret Lives of Black Bears" Join Sierra Forever naturalists for a look at the Sierra's most iconic, and misunderstood, resident - the black bear. Learn about their fascinating lives and how we can safely share the landscape with them. Campfire programs begin at 6:30 pm, and are free and open to the surrounding community. You don't have to be staying at the campground. Experience the magic of fall in the Eastern Sierra with one of our naturalists! Join us on Saturday, October 3rd for a free, family-friendly Fall Colors Walk through the aspen groves along the East Fork of Rock Creek. We'll learn more about the changing season and how it affects the plants and animals of the Eastern Sierra. When: Saturday, October 3rd from 10:00am - 11:30am Where: Meet at East Fork Day Use Parking Lot (approximately 5 miles from Tom's Place up Rock Creek Rd.) Walk will consist of about 1.5 miles on a mostly flat dirt trail. Please be sure to bring appropriate clothing layers for the weather, walking/hiking shoes, water and sun protection.
