On June 14, more than 450 incredible volunteers came together for our 2025 Paint the Mountain Green event, and the results were nothing short of inspiring!

Together, we made a major impact in the Spring Mountains:

✅ Collected 117 bags of litter from trails, picnic areas, and roadside pullouts
✅ Removed 96 bags of invasive weeds, helping native plants thrive
✅ Cleared 100 yards of drains and culverts to prevent erosion and improve trail safety
✅ Reinstalled 10 trail and site posts to help visitors stay informed and on track
✅ Trimmed vegetation around 70 picnic sites, reducing wildfire risk and making the area more inviting
✅ Cleaned up a local historic site, removing overgrowth and preserving its legacy

In total, it amounted to over 1700 volunteer hours!  All of this hard work helped protect wildlife habitats, preserve cultural landmarks, and ensure a safer, more beautiful experience for everyone who visits the mountains.

With over one million visitors seeking visiting the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area each year to escape from the heat and noise of the Las Vegas Valley, keeping the forest healthy and clean is more important than ever. Since its beginning, the Go Mt Charleston Team has collected over 50 tons of litter, working year-round to reduce human impacts and find long-term solutions for trash management.

As a partner organization with Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest and Spring Mountain National Recreation Area, Sierra Forever was honored to be part of organizing this incredible event for the first time this year.  It was truly inspiring to see how many community members came out on a Saturday to help take care of this special place – so many people wanted to help out that we had to massively increase the scale of the event and add more clean up locations.  Clearly the Spring Mountains are a loved and special place, and we look forward to hosting more stewardship events here!
