The California Quail, or Valley Quail, is the state bird of California and a native of the western United States. Its call, chi-CA-go, gives away its presence even when not seen. This plump bird eats mostly seeds and leaves and lives in coveys of 10-200 birds, preferring brushy areas of deserts and woodlands. Their signature topknot appears to be a single plume, but is actually a tuft of six overlapping feathers. 1.125″ Hard enamel pin; black metal.
