The Cougar (who has 40 other English names, including mountain lion, puma and panther) is a solitary cat and is the largest of the small cats. Adults average 2-2.5 feet tall at the shoulder and are anywhere from 5-8 feet long, nose to tail; males weigh 115-160 pounds, while females are smaller at 75-105 pounds. Cougars are smaller closer to the equator and larger closer to the poles. They can run 35-45 mph.
