A signature bird of the desert southwest, the Greater Roadrunner is a ground-dwelling cuckoo, feeding on snakes, scorpions and any other small animal it can catch and subdue. It uses salt glands in front of its eyes to excrete excess salt from its blood. Though capable of flight, it is clumsy in air and exhausts quickly. Holding its head and tail flat and parallel to the ground, it can run at speeds up to 18.6 mph. 1.625″ Hard enamel pin; nickel metal.
