White Mountain Peak is the third tallest peak in California at 14,246′. The trailhead is at nearly 12,000′ so it is a relatively easy day hike to the peak and back (14 miles round-trip). The trail follows an old abandoned dirt road and is the only 14,000′ peak in California that you can ride a mountain bike to the top! The hike is almost always done as a day hike as it is above tree-line the entire way and exposed to the elements; overnight camp locations are virtually non-existent. Thunderstorms can be common during the summer; be sure to carry adequate water and use hats, long sleeve shirts and sunscreen.
